To mark its tenth anniversary, the BNP Paribas Fortis European Open invited MWO to create a piece drawn from the sport itself. The result is a pair of custom benches designed in the colours of the tournament.
Each bench is built entirely from recycled tennis balls, 1,200 in total across the two pieces, cut and reassembled into 2,400 pixels of colour. The balls were collected from local tennis clubs across Brussels, giving a second life to material that would otherwise have been thrown away.
More than a commemorative object, the benches turn the waste of the game into a surface to sit on and gather around, extending MWO’s ongoing exploration of how discarded materials can become lasting, functional design.
