MWO collaborated with Champagne Laurent-Perrier on a limited edition of La Cuvée, bringing together the Maison’s relationship with terroir and time with Mathilde Wittock’s research into living materials.
For this collaboration, Mathilde developed a bespoke application of Soundroot, a material grown through the natural development and interweaving of plant roots. Rather than being manufactured into a predetermined pattern, the material is shaped by the growth process itself, allowing each root network to develop its own structure.
Soundroot was grown and sculpted directly around each bottle, creating a unique organic envelope in its natural colour. The result reflects the underground world shared by both practices: the roots from which the material is grown and the soil in which the vines establish their identity.
The collaboration resulted in 100 individually signed and numbered bottles of Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée. As no two root systems grow in exactly the same way, each edition is inherently unique — making the living process an integral part of the final object.
